I added a new event to the calendar - a book group for queer youth. Is there interest in a reading group for queer men? Womyn? I used to work at Barnes and Noble and when I was there there was always talk about forming such a group but it never happened.

Winner of the 2010 Pacific Northwest Bookseller fiction award
Award-winning NPR journalist and author, Naseem Rakha, will present a workshop “Writing For Change”, on March 2, at the University of Oregon Knight Library and 7:00PM. The mini-workshop draws from Rakha’s experience with the writing of her bestselling book, THE CRYING TREE (Broadway Books, 2009). This debut novel, winner of a 2010 PNBA Award, reaches into the heart of a family nearly torn apart by a mother’s act of forgiveness. It is a story of things not being what they seem, family secrets, and how these furtive actions reverberate through many lives.
Naseem is a charming and passionate speaker. She has been engaging audiences—writers and readers alike—across the country with her workshop, WRITING FOR CHANGE. “Fiction — at its best — transforms, making the impossible possible, and the unthinkable real. By tapping into the imagination, it gives heart and soul to people and dilemmas that are only headlines on a newspaper, or gossip on a blog. It illuminates and impassions, brings tears and rage. And sometimes, when it is done really, really well — it follows a reader into their lives, settles in, and changes a tiny part of who they are. Rakha, takes a look into how the art of writing can broaden people’s perspectives and help shape social change.”
“This complex, layered story of a family’s journey toward justice and forgiveness comes together through spellbinding storytelling.”
